Interoperability. If you've been in the crypto game long enough, you've probably heard of this jargon by now.
BSC and ETH blocks holding hands

It’s one of the pillars of web3: the next evolution of the internet, and more specifically, crypto.

Unfortunately, we’re far from achieving interoperability. With the rapid rise of cryptocurrencies, Dapps, NFT games, and other ingenuity, the innovators of tomorrow are building the future on various platforms.

And in the crypto universe, platforms involve blockchains. The thing is, as we build towards a decentralized future, we are becoming more and more segregated. An example—you cannot transfer assets from BSC to ETH without using a bridge.

Say you wanted to convert BNB to DOGE. Both cryptocurrencies are on two different networks—Binance Smart Chain (BSC) and Ethereum Mainnet (ETH), respectively.

Since you’ve probably typed out “bridge BSC to ETH MetaMask” in Google, I know you’re searching for the best way to undertake this burden with, indisputably, the best cryptocurrency wallet out there.

So, look no further if you’re wondering how to bridge BSC to ETH MetaMask. All you have to do is:

  1. Connect your MetaMask wallet to a BSC to ETH bridge like Synapse Protocol, Umbria Narni Bridge, or Multichain
  2. Select “BSC” as the network you’d like to bridge from
  3. Select “ETH” as the network you’d like to bridge to
  4. Choose the cryptocurrency you’re transferring from blockchain to blockchain
  5. Input the amount
  6. Hit “Approve”

Let’s get into it, shall we?

Can I transfer from BSC to ETH?

You can transfer assets through a bridge from BSC to the ETH network. It’s not too difficult, actually, and it’ll only take you a couple of minutes at most.

If you’re new to crypto, a bridge is a website or app where you can connect your wallet and exchange cryptocurrencies from one blockchain to the next. It’s one of the solutions to web3’s shortcomings: interoperability.

The only way you can move crypto assets between two blockchains is currently only through a bridge.

How do I bridge a network on MetaMask?

Before diving into how to bridge BSC to ETH MetaMask, you must understand that you cannot bridge a network directly on MetaMask. Instead, you have to connect your MetaMask wallet to a bridge app.

Capiche? Just remember: MetaMask is a cryptocurrency wallet. The development team has upgraded the software via neat features like buying ETH on the app, but for now, it remains a wallet.

How to bridge BSC to ETH MetaMask

So now we’re onto the whole point of this article: how to bridge BSC to ETH MetaMask.

Generally, to accomplish this, you must:

And voila! You’re all done. It takes only a few minutes to process the transaction.

If you’re still scratching your head wondering what I just said, fret not. We’ll get into detail for each app so you can bridge BSC to ETH MetaMask without a hassle.

BSC to ETH through Synapse Protocol

The first option is one of my favourites, as it’s an easy-to-use protocol with various cryptocurrencies to bridge between networks and no additional fees (aside from network fees, of course).

To bridge BSC to ETH MetaMask on Synapse Protocol, connect your MetaMask wallet and choose “BSC” and “ETH” in the network dropdown boxes. Then, select the cryptocurrencies you would like to exchange or transfer from BSC to ETH.

Just a note of caution: you can only exchange a handful of assets from BSC to ETH. For example, I can transfer BUSD to DAI, but I cannot exchange BUSD to USDB.

After you’ve selected your cryptocurrencies, enter the amount and ensure you have sufficient crypto in your wallet for network fees.

BSC to ETH through Umbria Narni Bridge

Umbria Narni Bridge is similar to Synapse Protocol for the bridge BSC to ETH MetaMask solution, though it has fewer cryptocurrency options. All you can do is transfer WETH from BSC to ETH on the Ethereum Mainnet and USDC between both networks.

Regardless, it’s still a tool worth considering due to its sheer simplicity. The steps are essentially the same as Synapse Protocol:

  1. Connect your MetaMask wallet
  2. Choose BSC in the “Send From” field
  3. Choose ETH in the “Receive on” field
  4. Select which asset you would like to transfer from the two in the dropdown menu on the very right
  5. Enter the amount
  6. Approve the transaction on the app and in your wallet

And there you have it!

BSC to ETH through Multichain

Saving the best for last.

Formerly known as Anyswap, Multichain is my go-to bridge for transferring currencies from network to network. It out classifies the rest of the apps on the list due to its vast (and growing) list of cryptocurrencies.

Beware, though: fees may be higher than other solutions. If you want to transfer well-known assets like USDC or DAI, I would first check out the other apps to compare pricing.

As with the other apps in this article, connect your wallet, choose BNB CHAIN and Ethereum Mainnet as the networks, pick which cryptocurrency you want to transfer from blockchain to blockchain, enter the amount and approve the transaction.

Not too bad, huh?

There are numerous other bridges out there, namely Binance Bridge and Binance.com, but they can be quite a hassle for sign-ups, registration, and other unforeseen factors.

For example, you can’t use Binance Bridge in the US (and other countries, for that matter), and Binance.com requires identity checks and other registration requirements, which, in essence, steals some of your privacy—one of the cruxes of web2.

How do you bridge from ETH to BSC on MetaMask?

You can’t bridge from ETH to BSC on MetaMask. However, you can connect to bridges like Synapse Protocol, Umbria Narni Bridge, and Multichain to bridge your assets between the two networks.

The reason? MetaMask is a cryptocurrency wallet and nothing more than that. We may see more upgrades in the future, but for now, MetaMask is the pioneer in web3 wallet connectivity and transactions.

Summary

It’s just a matter of time before we get more and more interoperability between networks—albeit, for now, we’ll have to stick to bridges to transfer cryptocurrencies from BSC to ETH blockchains.

To bridge BSC to ETH MetaMask, you’ll have to connect your MetaMask wallet to a bridge tool and then transfer your selected cryptocurrencies between the blockchains.

Hopefully by now you get the hang of it!
